Anxiety Treatment in Cedar Park, TX

Care from a board-certified psychiatrist for people whose worry has started running the day.

Many people with anxiety keep performing. The deadlines are met and the worry stays invisible, but it takes more effort to keep everything contained. Care here starts with understanding what is driving the anxiety, before settling on a diagnosis or a treatment.

Symptoms

What anxiety can look like

Generalized anxiety disorder is diagnosed when excessive worry occurs more days than not for at least six months, is hard to control, and comes with symptoms such as restlessness, fatigue, poor concentration, irritability, muscle tension, or disrupted sleep. Anxiety can also show up as panic attacks, social anxiety, or a pattern tied to specific situations. In busy professionals, anxiety is often masked by over-preparation and control, so it can go unrecognized for a long time.

Common experiences include:

  • Worry that is hard to switch off, even when things are going well
  • Restlessness, or feeling keyed up and on edge
  • Muscle tension, jaw clenching, or headaches
  • Trouble falling or staying asleep
  • Difficulty concentrating, or your mind going blank
  • Irritability over small things
  • A racing heart, stomach upset, or sweating under pressure
  • Avoiding situations, or over-preparing to feel safe
Diagnosis

What else it could be

These symptoms do not always mean an anxiety disorder. The evaluation checks for look-alikes and overlapping conditions, including thyroid problems and other medical causes, caffeine, stimulants, and medication side effects, depression, ADHD, trauma-related conditions, sleep problems, and substance-related causes. Getting this right shapes which treatment makes sense.

Care here

How care works here

01

A full evaluation first

New patients start with a short phone screen, then a psychiatric evaluation of up to 90 minutes covering your history, temperament, medical issues, sleep, thinking patterns and beliefs, and life story.

02

Treatment matched to you

Options include therapy built into your visits, medication when it helps, or both, with a conservative approach to prescribing. The right mix depends on your symptoms, your history, and your preferences.

03

One physician over time

The psychiatrist who evaluates you manages your care, with follow-up visits of 30 or 45 minutes. Telehealth and in-person visits are available for adults located in Texas.

Fit

Who this care is built for

This practice is built for busy professionals, entrepreneurs, and small business owners. Dr. Mathews is board-certified in psychiatry (American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology), completed his residency at Johns Hopkins, and completed a clinical research fellowship at the NIH. If another setting would serve you better, you will hear that early.
Common questions

Common questions

How is anxiety different from ordinary stress?

Stress usually tracks a specific situation and eases when it passes. Anxiety tends to persist, spread beyond the original trigger, and start affecting sleep, concentration, or decisions. An evaluation sorts out where the line sits for you.

Do I need medication?

Not always. The right approach depends on symptom severity, your history, and your preferences. Therapy, medication, or a combination may be considered, and any prescription follows a conservative approach.

Can I be seen by telehealth?

Yes. Telehealth and in-person visits are available for adults located in Texas, and follow-up care can be handled by telehealth when a visit does not need the office.

If you are in crisis, call or text 988 or call 911. The office does not provide crisis or emergency services.
